For Those Of You Who Don't Know

Last week I was on vacation. I had great ambitions: I was going to clean, finish up all these house projects, go to Ikea, maybe Jeni's Ice Cream in Columbus, get rid of stuff, and blog tons of good rants and raves on books and things I'd read and had reactions to. I had 32 items out of the library and so much to say and lots of time.

Then my mom called Tuesday morning to tell me my dad was dead. He'd had a heart attack late the night before while getting ready for bed and doing his Soduku puzzle.

Much of last week was horrible yet very funny. One of the things I did immediately was take my library materials back, just because it was one thing I could do and control.

I am still sorting a lot of feelings out, and I'm also far behind on a lot of things at work and at home. I am giving myself a break on posting for a while. I usually feel a little guilty that I'm not writing more, but sorry dear friends and readers--I just can't fit it in right now.

What I Am Up To

What I did this weekend:

Saturday: I had a free ticket to the Friends of the Cleveland Public Library benefit, and got dressed up, made up, and enjoyed myself. Heck, I even scored on the street free parking! Because I'll be asked: I wore my white wool suit with a $7 Old Navy silk shell in red that I had to run out and buy. I have lost weight because that suit was not comfortable in February when I wore it to the bank conference. Genevieve, I did the full Sephora makeup and my eyes did pop, even with my inexpertly applied eyeliner.

I ran into someone I knew from library school, saw a preservation demonstration and watched a librarian make miniature books, and got my handwriting analyzed. The graphologist was spot on--a bit scary.

Sunday: 3 hours of Sunday were killed by driving out to Petsmart, but the end result is good: Calcutta got adopted! I'm down to 4 cats! Praise the Lord! Thank you, St. Francis! Poor Bombay was very quiet in the carrier coming back, and I let her out she ran around the living room and cried. She's adjusting. Then I cleaned. Oh, and I called the cops on the neighbors. Sorry, but setting off firecrackers at 1 am is a bit much. Take your party inside, please.

Today I have moved stuff out of my bedroom in preparation for my Ikea trip tomorrow, and done laundry. Now I'm off to Home Depot.
