Guess What? Your Recipes Suck.

Oh, I'm cranky. Tonight I ran into a bad patch of recipes.

First, from the New York Times: Herbed White Bean and Sausage Stew. The whole premise of this recipe is that your beans will soften in 2 and a half hours and you don't need to pre-soak them. HA HA HA HA HA. Oh, Melissa Clark, you are such a comedienne. It's been on the stove for 3 hours, with 12 cups of liquid and it's just not happening.

I don't know why I fell for it. It sounded like a great recipe and just the thing on a cold night.

Martha Stewart can also be a problem. Her recipe for Oatmeal Apricot Cookies comes out to crumbly and dry, not soft and gooey, I think it would work better with the proportions of white and brown sugar were switched. Delicious dough though. The cookies went into the trash, they sucked so badly.

Next up is the Sweet Potatoes with Goat Cheese and Pecans and Oatmeal Squares. I'm not using apricot preserves in the latter recipe though-I have some cherry butter that is dying to be used.

So, what kind of recipes have gone totally wrong for you recently?

You know, I made Martha's Mexican Hot Chocolate cookies for the Cookie Party and they weren't quite spicy enough and also turned out a lot harder than I'd expected. Those things could both be attributed to user error, but I kind of feel like 1/4 a teaspoon of ancho is too little.
