Anne Lister: Independent woman. Financier. Lesbian. And she wrote it all down in coded diaries.

The 50 best author vs author putdowns--Awesome snark. But why so much directed towards Jane Austen?

I would have loved to see the Marina Abramovic show last month.

Hospital Cleared After Patient Catches Cancer From Kidney Transplant I have issues with transplants and transplant ethics, mostly due to the lack of universal health care, but also with the idea of deserving patients versus nondeserving patients. But this? "Oh, the person we took the kidney from had cancer--but I don't think you'll get it! It's not like cancer spreads after all!" Bad idea.

Woman Sues Google Maps After Getting Hit By Car. As someone who walks a lot, and grew up in a rural/suburban area, you have to keep your wits about you. Google Maps will not help you in real life.

Beautiful sideshow of a restored Airstream trailer.

A Texas cat saved her owner from an attack by two pitbulls. Kickass little calico, of course.

Six unusual homes. There's one made out of a cave down in Bisbee, AZ. I myself want to go down to Bisbee to stay at Shady Dell. Maybe for my birthday.

Freegan squatters in Buffalo. That's one way to revive the rust belt.

Seriously, freegan communes, like strict, organized religions and so many other things, have a mixed attraction for me. On the one hand, I long for the closeness and freedom and admire the audacity of taking over a house and fixing it up. On the other hand, I can't tolerate people who'd let their animals shit in the house. I have standards.

This gallery show of modified fridges is awesome. I'm just sorry that I won't be able to see it in person. But they did post photographs online.

Hilarious Dan Savage parody!
