Getting Out Gives Me Conundrums

Next Saturday, I am attending my second Places, Spaces and Faces Community Dinner. It takes place at the Phoenix Urban Research Laboratory down in Tempe, and the theme is STUFFED. I'm on the savory list. What to bring, what to bring?

I am strongly considering making samosas--they are delicious, I like them, peas and potatoes are cheap, and they are not bad at room temperature. I can also defrost my green tomato or pineapple stone fruit chutney for serving on the side.

However, this Nut Stuffed Delicata Squash also looks good.

Any other ideas?

However, more pressing is the the office Christmas party. I got tapped to run the salsa and guacamole competition. I have to provide prizes, raise spirits, pass out ballots, blah blah blah. I am bringing my own salsa (chili apple jicama) and have some good ideas for prizes (gift certificates to local businesses). I am not really jived about this, as you can tell. BLAH BLAH BLAH.

1. Samosas and chutney sounds like AWESOME party food. Also, no utensils needed!

2. How do you get roped into this crap? It seems like you're always organizing contests and judging pumpkin-carving or some other random stuff you don't seem to be remotely interested in. Is this secretly in your job description?

Samosas & chutney it is--I have a cute little turtle chutney pot server that I can bring with me to dress things up. Because nothing gets me going like competition with others, even when there is no competition.

As for this party crap, all I can say is that even when I'm depressed as fuck, I have this spritely, fun personality which makes people think I'm a natural for hosting these doings. Last time around our manager really wanted a pumpkin in the contest and the other team was really busy so it fell on me. This time my manager and the other girl on the party planning committee tapped me for this. It's less than 2 weeks before Christmas, I don't even want to go to an office Christmas party!

That sounds like a raw deal. I think you need to make a new year's "resolution" to work on saying NO to at least every other event like this you are asked to run. Are you spending your own $$ on prizes and ballots and whatnot?
